Google Meet caption notes

Turn Google Meet captions into editable meeting notes

Google Meet captions scroll past quickly, and they are not kept once they leave the screen. I Was Listening gives those visible words a little more staying power, turning Meet captions into editable personal notes you can reread and annotate. No bot joins the call, and no audio is recorded.

How it works

  1. Select Start taking notes.
  2. Choose the meeting window where captions are visible.
  3. I Was Listening finds the caption area and builds an editable notebook.

An editable notebook, not a recording

The app reads pixels from the Google Meet tab or window you explicitly share, not a Google API. It keeps caption text separate from nearby interface text.

Live captions help you follow the meeting as it happens. Editable notes let you reread and annotate what mattered before the conversation moves on. Edit captured text, add your own notes, highlight passages, attach short comments, search, and copy what is useful.

What stays local

OCR runs in your browser. There is no account, meeting bot, microphone, audio or video recording, cloud transcript storage, or AI summary. Notes remain in the current browser page and disappear when it is refreshed or closed. Google lookup sends only selected text, and only after you confirm.

What to expect

Turn on captions in Google Meet and keep them visible in the shared tab or window. OCR accuracy depends on caption size, contrast, and layout. If automatic detection picks up other text or misses the captions, use Focus area. The app still depends on normal meeting settings, browser permissions, and workplace policies.

Caption text is best effort and may contain mistakes. The notebook is not a guaranteed verbatim transcript.

Common questions

Can I save captions in Google Meet?
Live captions in Google Meet are not saved for participants once they leave the screen. Transcripts depend on account and organizer settings. I Was Listening keeps personal notes from the captions you can already see.
Does this record audio or join the meeting?
No. Nothing joins the call and nothing is recorded. The app reads only the captions already visible in the window you choose to share.
Where do my notes go?
Nowhere. Notes stay in this browser tab and disappear when you refresh or close it. Nothing is uploaded.
Do I need permission to take notes?
Follow your meeting's rules, your workplace policies, and local laws. If in doubt, ask the host.
